Township Committee moves to outlaw kerosene oil stoves citing safety and fire hazards after recent deaths. Board of Health president Adolph A. Winston directs attorney to prepare an ordinance. Proceedings also address highway safety concerns, zoning denials, and a commercial property revaluation bid.
In three years three of the original five Democratic Township Committee members will have left. Milton Conford avoided his second term after aiming for a judgeship, Henry Goldhor plans to resign, and John Malone left after one term. A successor may be appointed with Gural likely next in line. Road divider on Route 5 sparks pedestrian safety concerns as residents call it hazardous.
City officials indicated a plan for municipal parking lots will move forward soon with concrete developments expected shortly after Mayor Goldhor’s January remarks. The project anticipates groundbreaking and funding details in the near term.
After 42 years of scattered offices, Hillside Township opens a centralized Municipal Palace at Hillside Avenue and Broad Street housing Police, Tax, Health, Building, and other departments. The Young Democratic Club of Hillside met at Polish American Hall to plan a December membership drive. A rally is planned for Thursday December 22 with a prominent Democratic figure. An epidemic of flat tires struck a Westminster area section Sunday evening as police found fourteen cars with a total of twenty two flats. Investigators suspect youngsters used ice picks or similar tools. John Hvasti of 1465 Franklin Street aided the escapee Jones Kriml 35 from the 1952 Red Gzech prison break. Kriml arrived last Wednesday after debarking from the Gen Langtith transport with 1 215 refugees. he plans to stay with the Hvasta family as he seeks work in the United States.

An Ontario New York trailer carrying 33 000 pounds of sign material mounted a 6 foot divider on Route 22 near Harding Terrace after a car cut it off. The impact damaged two gas tanks causing a spill. firefighters washed away the fuel and the road was sanded as the undercarriage was damaged. Officer assistance was needed to manage traffic staged by Arnold G White and Frank Pitts.
