Boxer Kills Yorkie As Man Is Attacked in Westminster

Lewis Small, 60, of 225 Marine Terrace, was walking his Yorkshire terrier on Lakeview Drive when a loose boxer attacked. The boxer, owned by Thomas Buckley of 568 Irvington Avenue Elizabeth, knocked Small down and killed the small dog. Buckley’s son cried out as the incident unfolded. Buckley later moved the boxer to his car. Neighbors aided the injured man who was treated and released from St Elizabeth Hospital. In Hillside Municipal Court on August 6 Buckley was found guilty of gross negligence with a severe reprimand and a $50 fine.

Hillside Week Meeting Planned and Local Incidents

The Northern New Jersey Chapter of Dy sautonom'a meets August 27 at City Federal Savings Union to plan a October 29 dinner. John Costello is named director for a two year term. Police report robberies thefts and car thefts on Hillside and Union streets, with a fire at Wheeling Warehouse and a home entry at 15 Mertz Ave. Union College fraternities and sororities are listed with civic charity ties.

Stolen wire recovered after car fleeing police arrest

Police Lt James Silva spotted a car on Ramsey Ave and turned around. The occupants fled into a factory area, leaving behind six large coils of new copper wire in the car. Hatfield Wire and Cable Co. reported the wire stolen from the facility.

Bayonne Woman Hurt In Coe Avenue Crash

Mrs Geneva Detweiler, 45, of Bayonne sustained facial cuts and bruises at 9 44 p m Saturday after the auto she rode in with William Detweiler 46 of Bayonne struck a parked car owned by Mrs Elizabeth Still on Ridgway Avenue. A rock shattered the windshield causing the driver to lose control. Patrolman Joseph Fenlak reported the incident.

Search Starts For Candidates For Unexpired Term

The race to fill the two year unexpired term of the late Commissioner I continues with both the Democratic and Republican parties seeking strong candidates. Anthony O. Bullis, Hillside Taxpayers Association president, has announced an independent bid for township committee in November. Bullis, a former Republican leader in the 12th district, aims to promote clean government and has filed for petition signatures. Other potential contenders include Moe Bierman Albert S Parsonnel Dr E Thomas Lenz and Jack Schulman on the Democratic side while Anton Vit Jr Arthur Ferguson Dr Frank and Dominick Alello are noted for the Republicans.

YAF Chapter Opens To Area Youth

A local chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom opened to area youths. Jerry Fisher is chairman and Felix Nidzgorski is vice chair at room 16 in the Elizabeth Carteret Hotel. The group campaigns for advisor Raul Comesanas in the 13th district race and plans a leadership conference later in August.

Five Thousand Awarded To Injured Boy In Settlement

Superior Court Judge John E. Barger approved a five thousand dollar uncontested settlement for four year old David Sposobiec who was struck by a truck on Myrtle Street November 25, 1969. The award allocates 2600 to David from Public Service Electric and Gas Co. and 2400 to his father Edward J. Sposoblec. Attorneys Marvin S Fish and Henry T. L. Geason represented the child and the utility respectively.

Suit filed over loan from Hillside Bank in 1964

Sanford A Meskin filed suit for Union County Trust Co. against Sheldon Koch president of Broad and Thomas St Inc and three others for 12979.90 plus interest and costs. The complaint says Broad and Thomas St Inc borrowed 25000 from Hillside State Bank on January 16, 1964 and owes 12979.90.
