Turtle Back Bat Cave Showcases Night Illusions at Zoo
Turtle Back Zoo houses 15 Lesser Spear-nosed Bats in a glassed cave where red lights simulate day and white lights simulate night. Bats use sonar to navigate and hunt, hang upside down to rest, and are insect eaters in New Jersey. Director Richard Ryan warns against handling bats due to rabies risk and advises using a shovel if assistance is needed.
