Fifty one Hillside properties valued at about 42 million dollars are appealing to the State Division of Taxation for reductions that could total over 17 million. The town may lose more than 500 thousand in revenues if appeals succeed, prompting hiring of specialists to defend commercial property assessments led by American Can Co Lionel Toy Corp and Westinghouse with large requested reductions. The Hillside Elementary Summer School Program concluded Friday sending 1436 children home. All 436 students attended sessions at Walter Krumbiegel and Harden Locker Schools with courses in primary language arts for K to 3 and remedial reading and math for 4 to 8. The focus was on basic skills in reading and math plus listening and study habits, with libraries open for reading for pleasure and academics.

Impersonators Trouble Hillside Police This Week
Hillside police dealt with three impersonation incidents last week. A black Chevrolet Nova two men stopped two others on Conklin Avenue and fled after frisking them. A wallet was taken by an impersonator who posed as an officer and stopped John Walsh at Gertrude and Gurd. A cab driver clashed with a female impersonator, James Jamison, who was hospitalized after a punch and threat with a stick. Jamison was drunk and Baker faced assault charges, later released on bail.
