An unidentified driver lost control on Route 22, leaping the divider and striking a 4 Public Service bus head on. Bus driver Charles Kish, 43, and passenger John Hidvegi, 37, along with the car driver, were injured. all were treated and taken to St Barnabas Hospital Newark. Traffic halted for about an hour. The bus carried more than 40 passengers. the other car fled. The incident followed by a municipal advisory committee meeting on constitutional revision chaired by James Ozias.

Police Lt John Condrillo 55 of 515 Winans avenue died suddenly Saturday of a heart attack while visiting relatives in Woodbridge. His services were held at Growney Funeral Home and a High Requiem Mass followed with Elks services. He had been with the Hillside Police since 1935 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1960. He is survived by his wife Mary Callendrello Condrillo.
Requests to vacate dead end portions of Lehigh street west of Bloy street and Salem avenue north of Ridgway avenue were referred to Township Engineer Joseph Fuhrmann for study. The panel also approved a Dodge sedan purchase for a police unit and ordered a stop sign installation at Field place and Leslie street. Police Lt. John Candrillo was honored in a resolution of regret. All department heads were authorized to attend the New Jersey State League of Municipalities conference in Atlantic City November 14 to 17.
