Final Rt 78 alignment released with Newark path disputed

A compromise Rt 78 route, described as more or less final by Gov. Richard J. Hughes, would enter Newark from Irvington near Stecher and Cordier Streets, run along the boundary, pass behind Bra gie Avenue School, and join the Turnpike at Newark Airport Interchange. Mayor Addonizio approved the Newark entry but opposed the Clinton Hill segment, with Irvington backing the plan.

Apartment Hearing Set For August 8th

County Meeting Called On Sabin Polio Vaccine

Freeholder Mary Kanane announced a county meeting set for August 5 at Union County House, Elizabeth, to explore a county wide Sabin oral polio vaccine program. Pop Warner League Tryouts Announced

Pop Warner League releases tryout dates for the upcoming season with sessions on August 3 9 am and 1 pm August 4 1 to 5 pm August 10 9 am and August 11 1 to 5 pm. Two Hillside men chosen for USAF technical training

LACKLAND AFB Tex two Hillside New Jersey men have been selected to attend technical courses after completing basic training. Airman Dantel R Blank son of Mr and Mrs Robert N Blank of 14 Long Ave will study radio and radar maintenance at Keesler AFB Miss Airman Robert V Pietruszka son of Mr and Mrs Peter J Pietruszka of 414 Harvard Ave will train in communications analysis at the Communications Center in San Antonio Texas. Woman Dies After Crash On Rt 22 Near Harding Tor

A Brooklyn woman, Amela Saracino, 73, died hours after a three car crash on Rt 22 near Harding Tor. She suffered a ruptured spleen and died at St Elizabeth Hospital. Several others were treated for minor injuries, including Joseph Tuccio and Antoinette Tuccio, both of Brooklyn, and Gerald Funicello of Newark.

Under law a person can earn up to $1200 a year and still receive monthly payments, with partial payments possible for earnings above $1200. If earnings exceed $1700 the payable amount declines. Apt Restraint On 216 Hillside Ave Building Permit

A temporary restraint against issuing a building permit for a 28 unit apartment house at 216 Hillside avenue was extended to September 20 by Union County Judge John Barger. Hillside Home Owners Action Association and James P. Whitlock filed civil action against Hillside Township Committee Board of Adjustment and Menza Coal Co. alleging lack of jurisdiction and that the variance exceeded the zoning ordinance. Preliminary hearings may begin in September if action does not become permanent injunction. The suit claims the Board of Adjustment did not act within 90 days and that the variance violated the zone plan and omitted multi dwellings allowed by the ordinance.
