Social Security rules for workers over 62 explained
Ralph W. Jones of the Social Security Administration in Elizabeth outlined how earnings affect benefits for people over retirement age. Under law a person can earn up to $1200 a year and still receive monthly payments, with partial payments possible for earnings above $1200. If earnings exceed $1700 the payable amount declines. Residents over 62 earning under $3048 annually should contact their local office at 268 North Broad Street, Elizabeth.

Apt Restraint On 216 Hillside Ave Building Permit
A temporary restraint against issuing a building permit for a 28 unit apartment house at 216 Hillside avenue was extended to September 20 by Union County Judge John Barger. Hillside Home Owners Action Association and James P. Whitlock filed civil action against Hillside Township Committee Board of Adjustment and Menza Coal Co. alleging lack of jurisdiction and that the variance exceeded the zoning ordinance.
