Hillside resident R S Dollinger kept a rain check issued April 15 1960 for three cans of Shop Rite applesauce ten cents a can. Store initially refused to honor it but after state consumer protection agency contact Shop Rite redeemed the coupon and Dollinger gained national attention.

Williamson Ave Block Association Reorganizes and Plans 50th Anniversary Dinner
The Williamson Ave Block Association held a reorganization meeting on April 10 with Fred Lester as President, George White as Vice-President, Mrs Mary Reeves as Secretary, and Mrs Ethel as Treasurer. A 50th anniversary Class of 1926 dinner at Tower Steak House Route 22 Springfield is being arranged, inviting Hillside High graduates to honor four former teachers and celebrate five decades since graduation. About 41 reservations have been made. additional graduates are urged to attend for nostalgia and thanks to educators. Hunter Hillside Finance Commissioner Vincent Baldassano and Mayor’s Advisory Council on Consumer Protection chair Robert William spoke. An Easter party for about 50 children was also held at the Hillside Ebony Center.
