Hillside Man Ruled Insane Murder Trial Verdict
A 62 year old Hillside machinist was found legally insane and ordered confined indefinitely at a state hospital for the January murder of Dr Rudolf Barweh, 67, in his Jersey Street office. George M. Terninko, 52, of 66 Wolf Place, waited for hours, shot Barweh with a .38 revolver, severing an artery and killing him. Psychiatrists testified to long illness, prior hospitalizations, and a distorted judgement clouding his actions, with experts saying he was schizophrenic with depressive traits rather than fully aware of taking a life.

The Board of Education refused to disclose reasons for not rehiring high school band teacher Howard Toplansky. President Alfred J. Lordi said the board did not legally have to reveal its reasons. Seymour Bierman was the lone vote for rehiring. Students urged a new vote, calling the decision unjust. The meeting also approved hiring an architect for a girl’s gym renovation to create a resource center, a plan Bierman opposed as backward for physical education. A drug abuse program with Hillside Police will be shown at the Municipal Building with speakers from the police dept and two films. the public is invited.
