The Luxury of A Hurry Rescue Night Aboard Ice Cake
In February 1831 a Down East brig battled ice and cold off New York while a lookout spotted two children adrift on a cake of ice. Captain Larkin and mate ordered aid, and with exhausted sailors they rowed through the moonlit sea. They reached the ice to find two sleeping boys, warmed them against the numb night, and towed them to safety as the ice carried them toward the harbor. The rescue survived thanks to steadfast courage.
