First Big Move Starts In Vietnam Withdrawal
About 1,000 Marines of the 3rd Division flew from Vietnam to Okinawa as the first big unit withdrawal begins. In the push, 4,900 more Marines will leave for the United States within a week, while North Vietnamese mortar fire killed one Marine and wounded nine. American B-52s bombed northern staging areas in retaliation.
