Confederate Veterans Parade Ends Asheville Reunion

More than 500 Confederate veterans marched in a mile long parade here closing a three day reunion. Automobiles replaced foot banners as spectators cheered, recalling Lee and Jackson era valor and southern tradition before final demobilization.

Evangelist Bridgers Honors Aged Folk at High Point Service

Rev. Luther Bridgers preached at Wesley Memorial Church to a large crowd of senior citizens many of whom were elderly or shut in. The service featured memories of childhood, old time religion and uplifting songs as the evangelist urged youth to honor the aged. About 75 seniors aged 70 and up came to the altar for a closing benediction. attendees included an 83 year old man and an 89 year old woman.

Page Urges Frank Page for North Carolina Governor

Frank Page, chairman of the state highway commission, addressed the High Point Rotary Club praising road work as an investment. J. Elwood Cox, a commission member, endorsed Page for governor, saying he would vote for him over any other man. Cox highlighted NC road funding, school transport, and trunk-line improvements as evidence of progress.

Mission board official speaks on Belgian Congo work at First Presbyterian

Rev. Egbert Watson Smith executive secretary of the Presbyterian foreign mission board addressed a large interdenominational crowd at the First Presbyterian Church. He described 31 years since Christianity began in the Congo, 22000 native Christians, 23000 students in day schools and 85000 in Bible training, and urged support to expand five base stations and 600 branch stations across the region. He honored pioneer Samuel Napsley and warned of Muslim influence while stressing medical missions and expanded evangelism in the Belgian Congo.

The home place of W. H Idol on the Winston-Salem road was auctioned this morning by Penny brothers for the American Land Company. Total price about 80000 dollars. ER. B. Idol bought the home tract and another. Eugene Jarrett, W. L. Stamey, C. B. Ridge, and L. B. Moorefield each acquired several tracts. Tracts ranged 34 to 136 acres, totaling 456 acres.

Holton Funeral Held Yesterday

Martin Cicero Holton known as Uncle Cicero died at his son M L Holton’s home and funeral services were held at Springfield church. Pallbearers included nephews A A Holton John Holton Willard Holton Talmage Holton E W Holton and John L Holton with honorary pallbearers Judge James E Boyd Judge W P Bynum John A Barranger Alfred Scales Thomas Wood A R Hammer W H Ragan and J Elwood Cox. He was born April 2 1838 in Guilford county near High Point and married Martha Elizabeth Ricks in 1864. survived by five of eight children James E Helton Martin L Holton Ernest H Holton Mrs Maude E Gilbreth and Mrs Mabel B Smith. The funeral followed his farewell address to the Holton reunion four weeks prior. He had lived in the area all his life and was a member of Wesleyan Methodist church.

Funeral services for Dalton R. Raper will be held tomorrow at 1 o clock at his home 1111 West Commerce Street. Rev Samuel Haworth of the Friends church and Rev J M Hilliard will officiate. The death casts gloom over the city and many friends mourn his loss.

Circus sighted as Hagenbeck-Wallace arrives in High Point

The Hagenbeck-Wallace circus comes to High Point with two shows at Jones Field, matinee and night. A mile long street parade through the city will feature flying trapeze, bareback riding, wire walkers, trained animals, and a grand menagerie. Doors open one hour before each performance for a full tour of the menagerie.

Mr Cox Heads to 50th Bankers Association Meet

Mr J Ewood Cox of High Point leaves for New York to attend the American Bankers Association 50th annual convention. He serves on the executive committee and will participate in sessions before the lessons begin Monday. Preparations are described as extensive for what is hoped to be a highly profitable gathering with noted financiers on the program. The Coxes expect to return to High Point late next week.
