Announcement of the marriage of Miss Katherine Ann Ravesies of High Point to Corporal Jack B. Phillips of Greensboro and High Point, solemnized in Wetumka Alabama with Rev Parker presiding. Attendants included Sergeant Ralph Closson and Mrs. Closson.
Little Miss Fredericka Mundy was feted on her fourth birthday with a party at Blair Park clubhouse hosted by Mrs. Fred Mundy. About thirty children attended games and crafts led by Mrs. W. G. Kirkman and Miss Maggie Sheloff, followed by cake and candles. Each guest received rayon sets and coloring books. guest list included Elizabeth Parker, Vicki Hayworth, Andra Jones, Judy Bowlen, and many others.
Vera Waggoner and Robert G. Kearns Jr of High Point solemnized their wedding September 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Rev. N C Williams home. The bride wore navy blue with white accessories and gardeniaprost cor sage. Bride’s parents are S H Waggoner of 2009 Almina street and groom’s parents R G Kearns and late Mrs Kearns of 406 Smith Street. Both graduates of High Point High School class of 1941. Groom employed at Burlington Mills. couple to reside at 329 Woodrow Avenue.
Astrid Varnay, 23, youngest Met star, will headline the High Point Community Concert Association season opening on Wednesday October 7 at 8 PM in the senior high school auditorium. The Swedish born soprano rose to fame after stepping in on December 6 1941 and again six days later in Wagner roles, drawing praise from critics and music lovers amid wartime travel limits.
North South top score honors at Emerywood country club Saturday. Mrs Laurence Ingram and Mrs Robert Hubbard led East West with first place. Runners up included Mr and Mrs R B Terry and the Tilson Parker duo. Other players listed include J S Welborn and J O Housechild among several pairs.
The High Point Girl Scout Council will meet Thursday morning at the Adams Memorial YWCA. The meeting is at ten o clock, announced by Mrs. Taylor M. Simpson, local Girl Scout commissioner.
Metropolitan Opera star Astrid Varnay will formally open the High Point Community Concert Association fall series on Wednesday October 3. She will sing at the senior high school auditorium at eight o'clock in the evening.

Miss Mary Louise Cass of this city married Sgt Tom M Sandifer of Lowell in York South Carolina on June 27. E Gettys Nunn officiated. The couple traveled with Mrs D A Bullard witness. Bride wore navy silk with red and white accessories. Daughter of Mrs A R Cass of 203 Lindsay Street, High Point High School class of 38, Jones Business College graduate, office staff at Tomlinson's. Groom son of Mr and Mrs E L Sandifer of Lowell, Lowell High School grad, Belmont Abbey College attendee, now in foreign service with U S Army with 825th Engineers Division. Bride remained with her mother during his service.
The YWCA business and professional clubs announce an outdoor supper and campfire at the city lake on Thursday October 1 meeting at the YWCA at 6 PM. Misses Annabelle Thompson Hazel Wright and Marie Workman lead the evening with crafts and a quiz program. Additional clubs plan weekly activities including Florence Nightingale Highland Lead-A-Hand Adams Club and Night group events with meetings, dances, and a luncheon on Saturday for night shift members.
Colony Club announces a meeting on Wednesday September 30 at 10 30 AM at Emerywood country club. President Mrs James W Poole states the gathering will kick off a new year with business topics. The club lists about one hundred young women and matrons in High Point social circles. Verlon and Ray Quaigue plans were noted for a prior September 23 ceremony witnessed by Mrs A Laockamy and Miss Lois Efird.
