Transcript details taping Hearst jail conversations
Sheriff Gene Stewart explains taped prison conversations are standard security practice and are erased after use. U.S. Attorney James Browning notes legal admissibility of inmate conversations with visitors. Judge Oliver Carter releases the transcript to aid psychiatric evaluation of Miss Hearst while cautions on its evidentiary role. The dialogue, recorded via closed circuit line, touches on Hearst’s mental competency and bail questions amid bank robbery and kidnapping charges. Authorities review whether seized weapons connect to a separate double murder case.
