Lexington Faces Appeal Over Local Option Referendum
Beeker says a waiting period is unnecessary and Lexington has filed notice of appeal in Davidson County Superior Court. If the City Council pursues the appeal a court may rule on the state Board of Elections authority for the August election. The board’s ruling hinges on a new law allowing review of elections on issues, not only candidate contests. Becker calls the law retroactive and inapplicable here. The Leranen Se Seer cil will decide prosecution of the appeal and new election date.
