Instructors for the fall session of the annual High Point Arts and Craft Workshop met at the YWCA to finalize plans for the eight week course running October 11 to December 6. In Winston-Salem Rev J Roy Clifford president of Twist hospital board of trustees presided at ground breaking ceremonies for a new hospital wing. Contracts totaling 2000.04 were let to advance an eight story structure to a state with 150 micro beds. Exterior work will be finished while interior remains incomplete until funds are raised. The wing, to be completed by April 1 1953, will raise total beds to 450.
Jacob Solimor a 67 year old San Francisco man filed a separate maintenance suit against his wife Rachel Solimor of San Carlos under a new California law. He requests 1509 monthly alimony plus 1325,000 in attorney fees and 2500 court costs. He says his wife, a successful investor, earns about 3000 monthly and owns 250,000 in Peninsula real estate and another 250,000 in China. The couple, married in Hong Kong 47 years ago, have six grown children and Solimor has been employed by his son Stanley recently.

Rep Stefan said the State Department prohibited displaying a large bronze bust of Gen Douglas MacArthur at the Japanese Peace Conference in San Francisco. He recounted finding the bust and plaque under a bedspread in a hotel lobby, donated by Julius Wadsworth. The bust was returned to Washington for replicas, while the plaque was given to the Japanese delegation.

Dr. Thomas L. Blair, Winston-Salem, named president-elect. A banquet featured Dr. Sandy C. Marks of Wilmington, the state’s only dental missionary to the Belgian Congo. The group endorsed fluoridation of Piedmont water supplies.
