Two persons were killed instantly when two cars in a near head on collision on Junior Order Home Road five miles south of Lexington Saturday afternoon. Miss Frances Virginia Beck 32 of High Point and James Crawford Byerly 49 of Linwood died in the wreck. Both cars were demolished and Beck’s car caught fire. Byerly’s vehicle, going toward Linwood, apparently crossed the center line at high speed. Beck and Byerly were identified with their hometowns and church affiliations. Funeral arrangements were announced for Beck at Center Hill Baptist Church with burial at Mt View Cemetery. Byerly, a World War II veteran, is survived by his wife and four brothers and three sisters. his body remained at Davidson Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Nixon leads the race with Reagan rising, Romney faltering, Percy and Rockefeller shaping moderate support, and favorite son talk spreading across 15 states for 656 convention votes.
