In Chicago on September 24 an off duty bank policeman shot a man who posed as Rudolph Altrechi after attempting to pass a forged check at First National Bank. The suspect fled through a crowded street, was hit in the back, and was seriously wounded as bystanders scattered. The man is believed to be a masquerader and a former University of Chicago assistant professor.

Judge Denis E. Sullivan denied a motion by Lady Marguerite Hyde to oust her brother Joseph Leiter as a trustee of the $3,600,000 Leiter estate in Chicago. The ruling came in superior court and centers on the administration of the late Levi Z. Leiter’s fortune.
Samuel Lewis Hank longtime Indianapolis mayor dies suddenly from heart disease at age 72.
