Ida Lewis, renowned for rescuing the drowning at Newport, remains the sole woman to hold a government lighthouse keeper post. Though past middle age, she stays vigilant for those in need and would attend to their relief as promptly as she once did.
A Portland doctor and self-proclaimed leading physician says he has located Captain Kidd treasure and plans to dig up seven million dollars. He claims the treasure shifts if disturbed by the pirate’s restless spirit, while officials mock the wager as the tale unfolds.
