Parents oppose shortened bus ride amid school law dispute

In Randolph County Trinity Consolidated 1 faces a lawsuit after 19 children ages seven to 16 refuse to ride a school bus a three tenths of a mile due to route changes. Parents argue compulsory attendance rules require the district to provide full transportation as funded by taxes. The case, led by F. D. McLeod, claims the district is cutting costs by shortening the bus ride, while officials say laws permit the shorter route for students within a mile. The parents anticipate court action if needed as holidays continue for the 19 students.
