Judge Upheld Leaf Sale Plan In Flue-Cured Tobacco Markets
Federal Judge Algernon Butler refused to halt enforcement of tobacco sales schedules set by the Flue-Cured Tobacco Marketing Committee for Border Belt markets after two days of hearings. The ruling preserves the committee’s schedules, with objections from the Border Belt Warehouse Association claiming conspiratorial buyer boycotts and unequal treatment among markets. The judge noted halting enforcement could disrupt the entire flue-cured tobacco area and found the committee had allocated sufficient sales time to market expected offerings.
