North Carolina launches federal state cooperative project to culture oysters in thousands of sound bottoms. The U S Bureau of Fisheries, Beaufort biology station, and the Department of Conservation and Development cooperate led by H F Prytherch. NC bottoms estimated at 1 175 000 acres with only about 12 000 currently producing. Officials foresee oyster gardening on leased bottoms to boost shellfish income significantly.
