Financial Responsibility Law Costs More Than Estimated
Raleigh AP The administration and enforcement of the new compulsory insurance act cost more than expected. The governor and Council of State approved a 94 442 general fund supplement to cover the Motor Vehicles Department shortfall, with an original Assembly appropriation of 100 000. The act is projected to require 149 442 to administer, roughly 30 highway patrolmen. The council also approved funds for the Butner Training School and related employee classifications, and raised bank certificate of deposit interest from 2 to 2 percent. They tapped contingency funds for planning the White House Conference on Children and Youth and approved 24 property transactions including the sale of the general electric system at Butner to Duke Power Co for 176 935, shifting power duties to Duke.
