No Lines Planned At Mansion For White House Tours
The National Park Service will test a plan to reduce lines for White House tours by letting visitors relax on Ellipse bleachers with free color coded tickets for timed tours. From Oct 7 to Nov 1 a 2000 seat setup and volunteer musical acts from high schools colleges and military bands will entertain as tours begin between 10 am and noon Tuesday through Saturday. Depending on success the pilot could run during next year’s bicentennial season.

Audit delays slush fund claim in Southern Bell case
North Carolina Utilities Commission ordered an independent audit of Southern Bell Telephone Co.’s North Carolina records focusing on the 1974 test year for a rate increase amid prior allegations of a 1972 slush fund. The audit by Touche Ross & Co. found no 1974 evidence and flagged internal controls, while warning that records from 1972 were not inspected. A hearing on the $62.5 million rate hike is planned, and officials say the audit does not preclude further book scrutiny.
