Vietnam Battles Shift to Coast Refugee Camp Fight

Although Saigon area quieted, heavy clashes erupted near a refugee camp 645 miles northeast as Viet Cong shelled a military outpost and overran the camp, destroying most of it and killing civilians. Kidnappings and several engagements followed with both sides reporting casualties. A U S force also reported eight North Vietnamese killed in dense woods southeast of Tay Ninh while U S infantry and paratroopers aided by South Vietnamese units continued the fight. The 1st Air Cavalry marked its 48th birthday with entertainment troupes at outposts nearby.

Appeal for Better POW Treatment in Vietnam Talks

The United States urged improved treatment of prisoners as Vietnam peace talks resumed in Paris after Ho Chi Minh's death.
