E J Hill of Detroit won the James Gordon Bennett balloon trophy race unofficially piloting The Detroit a 725 mile trek from Detroit to Baxley Georgia He led a US Belgium France Spain and other entries across the finish line with Goodyear VI close behind The race featured wind squall lines and low altitude flying to conserve gas and ballast.

Ruth Elder Indicated Trans Atlantic Flight Plans

Miss Ruth Elder co pilot of the American Girl told Wheeling backers by telephone from Portsmouth that she would proceed with her original trans Atlantic flight plan. She and partner George Haldeman landed in Portsmouth en route from Tampa to Wheeling and aimed to depart for Wheeling then Roosevelt Field New York and on to Paris by Sunday. Promoters urged postponement to next year.
