Gemini 11 astronauts Charles Conrad Jr and Richard F. Gordon Jr docked with the Agena target satellite after a first orbit, achieving a record-quick rendezvous about 185 miles above the Pacific. The maneuver, finalizing in a docking at ~11:15 a.m. EST, used onboard guidance to minimize ground support and paves the way for Apollo era maneuvers.

A Tanzanian two-man jury recommended Bill Haywood Kinsey be found innocent of murdering his wife Peverley Kinsey. They ruled her death March 27 an accidental fall from a rock. Kinsey, a 25 year old Peace Corps volunteer from Washington DC, faced a life verdict after a 15 day trial.
Five young refugees sheltering from gunfire in Communist territory used a bulldozer to break through barbed wire and enter West Berlin. The group included two pregnant women and a 4 year old, as East German guards fired 38 shots. The driver said they lacked armor but sought freedom in their hearts. Names were not disclosed.
