Apache Ghost Dance Delights Pershing Faction at Field Headquarters
Apache scouts from El Valle traveled to field headquarters to perform a ghost dance for General Pershing. The five dancers wore carved headdresses and mirrors, danced around a fire while musicians chanted, and the show concluded by order after an hour. Capt. James A. Shannon supervised preparations as soldiers watched in khaki. The purpose and chants remain unknown, described only as a ceremonial display the scouts found pleasing.
