FDA seeks larger force to guard food supply and recalls

FDA Commissioner Charles C. Edwards told a House subcommittee that strengthening federal safety efforts would cost about 200 million dollars to build a beefed up inspection team. He outlined licensing of processors, mandatory tainted food reporting, more frequent inspections of 60 000 plants, enhanced imports checks, and rapid response for disasters, referencing botulism cases in Bon Vivant vichyssoise and Campbell Soup chicken vegetable soup. Khrushchev Reported Dead at 77 in USSR
