Ohio student crowned Miss America of 1963

Jacquelyn Mayer from Ohio won the Miss America 1963 title in Atlantic City. The Northwestern University sophomore, 20, 5-5 and 115 pounds, impressed with talent dancing and acting plus a Broadway star wish. Her win followed Miss Fletcher of Asheville. Mayer plans to finish education and pursue theater.

Frost Calls Khrushchev a Ruffian in Talk at Gagra

American poet Robert Frost, 88, described Soviet Premier Khrushchev as the kind of ruffian who is not afraid of a fight or magnanimity after a one hour interview at a government house in Gagra on the Black Sea. A Soviet reporter suggested he meant rough not ruffian but Frost spoke on despite her remark. He had flown in Friday at Khrushchev’s invitation and recalled the rambled, disorderly nature of the talk during a Saturday news conference.

Johnson Says Friendship For U S Strong

Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson said six nations he visited view Americans as friendly and considerate.
