The storm’s future path was uncertain but not expected to weaken much in the next hours. The system previously lashed Antigua, while Florida endured damage and fatalities from a gulf hurricane. Cedar Key and Yankeetown suffered homelessness and ruined housing, with 40 homes lost to seas along the St. Petersburg area. The hurricane moved inland across six states including Florida Georgia North Carolina South Carolina Tennessee and Alabama.

A British army doctor reported a 67 year old Chinese patient in Malaya had a fever of 112.5 degrees after gall bladder surgery and survived after nearly an hour of cooling. The note appeared in a letter to the British Medical Journal.
