Congress Faces Budget Limit Test in Coming Months
The Congressional Budget Office projects a potential 5 billion overrun of the 367 billion spending ceiling if current measures pass unchanged. Defense and foreign aid bills hold the key, with defense totaling 100 billion and targeted cuts of 3.7 billion by Congress. Readiness to sustain the deficit estimates puts administration figures near 63 to 65 billion, amid disputes over non discretionary areas like veterans benefits and food stamps.
