Six Foresters Lead North Carolina Forest Survey Team
Six men form the State Federal forest survey crew surveying North Carolina forests county by county. They plot areas from aerial photos and study timber volume and use to balance supply with demand for defense and industry needs. The effort, funded by 40 thousand dollars state and about 160 thousand federal, covers southeastern counties with plans to finish later in the northeast.

Maine's 1952 Election Test Shaped by Maine Races
Maine voters face the state's 1952 elections with a governor, an open U.S. Senate seat, and three Congress seats on the line. Republicans defend a long majority as Richard Nixon campaigns in Augusta, while charges about the state liquor monopoly swirl with indictments of Bernard Zahn and Frederick Papalos. Democrats field P. Dube and Earl S. Grant against Governor Payne, with cross headlines in a race that also pits James C. Oliver against Burton Cross for governor and three Republicans seek re-election to Congress.
