North Carolina approves CT&T phone rate rise
The State Utilities Commission approved a $1.532 million annual rate increase by Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co for its service in 40 counties with 111 exchanges and about 153 000 telephones. The commission rejected a further $1.4 million increase. Hearings were held as 55 towns and four counties formed the East Carolina Phone Fight Committee opposing the hikes.

State Revenue Commissioner James Currie reported August tax receipts at 24.12 million, down 705 thousand from August last year.
