City Recreation Music Festival Pleases Audience
The City-Wide Recreation Music Festival drew a modest audience at Ittiam Penn auditorium on Tuesday night. It showcased vocal and instrumental groups, the first local effort to present all phases of Negro music in a single event. The Recreational chorus under Prof. B E Burford received strong applause and was encored for I Can Tell The World, with the Aust Brothers quartet also earning an encore after Trees. The solo group featured Camp Friend and BR Griffith with Songs Somebody Is Knocking At Your Door and Just You, while piano solos by Thelma Drake Helen Gannaway and Sarah Walden met with praise. C Jones orchestra drew much applause in the secular portion. all groups contributed to a successful program. O E Davis thanked the recreational workers for supporting the playgrounds.
