RIP program cuts furniture costs by better lumber use
A computer tool developed by the Forest Service and Michigan State University, called RIP Rough Mill Improvement Program, helps furniture and dimension manufacturers use lower lumber grades more efficiently. It analyzes bill of materials, lumber prices, drying and handling costs to minimize material waste and costs, saving about 100000 dollars yearly for mid sized plants.
