U S air cavalrymen moved from their base in the central highlands at dawn to pursue a Viet Cong mortar attack on their camp near An Khe. Casualties were light and the airstrip sustained minor damage as patrols pursued the attackers. Separately a grenade wounded a policeman at a Gia Dinh youth center near Saigon.
Tens of thousands gathered in Dallastown Pa to hear President Johnson promise government help for rural life and to stem migration to cities. He praised Gov Scranton and greeted visiting governors Hughes and Terry Jr while a peace picket line stood nearby.
