PARIS. Meat price ceilings are back as theFrench government slaps down meat speculators. Controls dropped two years ago were re introduced by two government announcements last night effective September 7.
The five upper Middle Belt markets opened today with an anticipated average of $53 per hundred pounds. Markets in Durham Oxford Henderson Warrenton and Louisburg join Sandhills Belt markets. Tobacco specialist W P Hedrick of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture forecasts the price, while Eastern and Border Belt points hope for higher values after a Labor Day week with several market closures.
New York AP report says a special committee of the New York Criminal and Civil Courts Bar Association pressed its inquiry into the ousting of 90 West Point cadets and requested President Truman grant honorable discharges so they may receive accumulated and mustering out pay.
In Labor Day speeches AFL president William Green and CIO president Philip Murray pressed for repeal of Taft Hartley while attacking the new controls law as watered down anti inflation measures.
