One person died and ten were injured when two cars collided on Highway 10 A near Chestnut Street. The dead woman was Alice Marie Gibson, 23, of Stony Creek Mills Pennsylvania. In the Buick driven by Cora Lee Josephs of Durham were her husband and seven others. in the Ford with Gibson were her husband Thomas Gibson and four children. The accident left multiple serious injuries, including broken ribs, facial lacerations, and head injuries, with most injured from Durham and surrounding areas. Details continue on page 11 A.

New Hurricane Located 900 Miles to East
MIAMI Florida September 3 UP A tropical hurricane with winds up to 90 mph tonight showed a tendency toward a northerly course likely to carry it away from the mainland. Located about 900 miles east southeast of Miami the storm was moving north northwest at 15 to 16 mph. If kept on course it would miss the Bahamas with strongest winds near the center 80 to 90 mph and gales outward. A hurricane hunter aircraft was damaged when one of its propellers failed.

Well To Do Negro Farmer Shot To Death By Raiders
Bainbridge Georgia report says Hollis Riles a well to do Negro farmer about 53 was killed by four to five white men at his fish pond. He was found slumped against a tree with 13 buckshot injuries. A witness Jesse Gordon a Black man said the assailants fled in two cars with one plate obscured. Sheriff White called it premeditated murder and noted an earlier shooting at Riles home after he tried to bar White men from his pond.
