NFL Cuts To 49 Man Rosters Across League

NFL teams rushed to trim rosters to 49 by Tuesday with further cuts to 46 by next week and a 43 man limit on Sept 16. Jets, Falcons, Giants, Packers, Bengals, Steelers, Broncos, 49ers, Patriots and Dolphins announced or prepared cuts while trades and signings reshaped several rosters.

Petty Extends Lead in NASCAR Standings to 3,509

Daytona Beach AP reports Richard Petty maintains a large lead in the NASCAR Grand National points race, with 3,509 after 21 of 30 events. Dave Marcis trails at 2,852 followed by James Hylton 2,719 Richard Childress 2,639 and Benny Parsons 2,633. Petty finished second to Bobby Allison in the Southern 500 at Darlington, but led more laps and earned 180 points.
