Treasury plans $400 million new cash and $1 billion balance

Secretary Morgenthau announced a September financing to raise $400 million in new cash while preserving a working balance near $1 billion as protection against unforeseen abroad conditions. Dozen Prisoners Granted Paroles in North Carolina

Governor Ehringhaus granted paroles to 12 prisoners incl Jesse Lee Peake who was given 22½ to 30 years in Forsyth county for second degree murder. Schools Opening Diphtheria Rises in State Health Report

The state board of health reports North Carolina saw big increases last week in diphtheria pellagra and scarlet fever compared with the prior week. Diphtheria reached 36 cases doubling the week before pellagra 29 cases more than double and scarlet fever 24 cases up eight. Typhoid chickenpox and measles also rose while meningitis fell from three to two cases.
