Beho, France September 3 A spearhead of fascist rebels attacked socialist held Beho with two thousand rebel infantry and armored cars leading the assault along the river road. Moors and government troops exchanged heavy fire as rebels massed mortars and infantry sought to seize a government house.
Secretary Morgenthau announced a September financing to raise $400 million in new cash while preserving a working balance near $1 billion as protection against unforeseen abroad conditions. He said net borrowing would not exceed $750 million for the year and noted the balance had already been cut by $800 million.
Governor Ehringhaus granted paroles to 12 prisoners incl Jesse Lee Peake who was given 22½ to 30 years in Forsyth county for second degree murder. Other paroles include Hilary Southern eight to ten years for seduction, Arne le five years for robbery, Buck Carvey three years for assault with deadly weapon, and Dice Taylor 38 to 48 months for carrying a concealed weapon and assault.

In Logan West Virginia rescuers pulled two more bodies from the Macbeth mine for a death toll of six after an explosion at Hutchinson Coal. Crews tunneled through slate toward up to six trapped miners amid deadly afterdamp gases, with hope fading.
Harry Richman and Dick Merrill, American airmen, crossed the Atlantic in a 16 hour flight before landing near Llandeilo South Wales with the "Lady Peace" fuelled and safe. They started from New York and aimed for Croydon London, landing 1 mile short of the Croydon air field after about 3 300 miles in the air.
The state board of health reports North Carolina saw big increases last week in diphtheria pellagra and scarlet fever compared with the prior week. Diphtheria reached 36 cases doubling the week before pellagra 29 cases more than double and scarlet fever 24 cases up eight. Typhoid chickenpox and measles also rose while meningitis fell from three to two cases.
The U S Bureau reports a projected world supply of about 19 6 00 0 0 bales of American cotton as of August 1, down from last year and far below the 26 million bale peak in 1931. Prices rose with shrinking supply while US consumption increased during the recovery. European mill activity remains solid.
Winston Salem September 3 James G Hanes president of Hanes Hosiery mill closed by striking workers charged unionists threaten loyal employees with loss of work unless they join the union. He says workers may return without joining any organization and that the plant will reopen under prior nonunion terms.
The fourth game of the national junior Legion championship series between Spartanburg and Los Angeles was rained out. Spartanburg leads the series two games to one. Play will resume tomorrow, weather permitting.
Bertha Fowler and daughter Inez convicted on prostitution charges after Bertha recanted her earlier story of being dragged from home and flogged by a band.
Mrs. Wallace Bruce Lea of Rocky Mount North Carolina was fatally injured in a two vehicle crash nine miles south of Petersburg on a wet highway. Her son Bruce age 16 and daughter Mary Mildred Lea age 18 suffered injuries. The car skidded and overturned down an embankment.
President Roosevelt and Alf Landon met in Des Moines at the office of Gov Clyde L. Herring in an extraordinary face to face encounter over the national drought problem. Crowds cheered as both nominees rode through the capital in open cars after arriving by special train.
Washington reports that world powers plan to raise submarine tonnage by about one third beyond treaty limits after Japan announces it will keep 15 598 tons scheduled for scrapping. Tokyo says the note is sent to the state department as Britain triggers the escalator clause to add 40 000 tons of destroyers. Signatories may invoke the escape clause to bolster defense, prompting proportional increases.
France protested to the Spanish rebel Junta over violations of French territory as insurgent fire from the Iran sector raged across the Bidassoa river. Bullets bombs and shells have fallen on French soil daily, wounding several on the French side.

RALEIGH Sept 3. Parole commissioner Ehbreinhaus and Edwin conferred at length on the three men facing elect tomorrow at the state prison. All were convicted of murder. The condemned are J B Carden of Durham Geo ston of Chapel Hill and Pressley of Gaston county.
North Carolina expects a cloudy night and a cooler Friday with central and eastern portions seeing shifts. South Carolina forecasts partly cloudy skies with local showers tonight and Friday, with cooler readings in the northwest areas.
