Opinion on Collier's umpiring in 1949 North State League
Statesville attorney Collier faces criticism from local baseball figures over umpiring in the 1949 North State League season. He is accused of backing umpires inconsistently and reversing calls, especially in two Hi-Toms games against the Hiroms, prompting calls for his replacement. The piece notes Al Jarrett remains the league’s leading pitcher and questions the league directors' support of the president.
