Kennedy Wins in New York Democratic test vote for Senate nomination

Atty. Gen. Robert F. Kennedy won a large margin in a New York Democratic test vote as the party moved toward nominating him for the U.S. Senate to oppose Republican Kenneth Keating. The State Committee backed Kennedy about five to one, enabling his name to appear on the ballot at the party convention. The convention audience heard Stratton urge unity as Kennedy’s nomination was urged despite tensions over the party’s stance on the Goldwater-Miller national ticket. The Conservatives nominated Henry Paolucci for Senate.

Four arrested in trooper Herbin shooting near Raeford

Trooper W. T. Herbin was found shot three times with his own revolver in a cornfield off U S 401 near his patrol car. County Board Ordered to Toss 3642 Madison Votes

The North Carolina elections board orders Madison County to recanvass six precincts and throw out 3642 of 5269 votes cast, shifting Norton ahead of Ponder and prompting a new tally of 6887 to 3245 if upheld.
