Breakthrough Seen In Copper Strike Settlement Pattern

Denver, UP. The International Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers Union predicts quick settlements with Phelps-Dodge, Anaconda and American Smelting and Refining after Kennecott agreement. 8,000 workers at Kennecott returned to work after accepting a 22 cent per hour wage package, signaling a nationwide strike that had halted copper, lead, and zinc production. Officials expect similar terms with other firms, with ratifications pending. President Truman had warned about invoking Taft-Hartley while a fact-finding board acted.
