Tax Credit No Aid To N C Housing
Raleigh and North Carolina housing leaders say the federal income tax credit for new homes has not spurred a housing boom. Through mid 1975 starts fell short of 1973, with 2,619 starts versus 4,029 in 1973, as high prices and rates deter buyers. Mortgage rates around 9 percent deter purchases more than the tax credit, officials say.
