Sniper Misses Brilles as Gun Sight Takes Hit in France
Corporal John W. Brilles a gunner with the Third Division of the Seventh Army in France was saved from a bullet when a German sniper struck the gun sight on his 105mm howitzer. He said the shot broke the sight and a fragment hit his face as German fire opened from about 60 yards. Brilles, whose home is 132 West Main Street, Thomasville, commented that it was the closest he has had in his year overseas.
