Tar Heel Gardener Tips For Preparing Spring Bulb Garden
The Tar Heel Gardener advises planting narcissi, jonquils, Dutch iris, crocus, tulips and hyacinths next spring. For long term plantings, thoroughly prepare soil and fertilize with 8-8-8 at four pints per 100 square feet, deep enough for the bulb. Four to six months before planting, avoid organic manures to reduce bulb rot. Consider growing some bulbs in pots to force indoor blooms this winter.
