Forecast shows cloudy conditions with light rain possible in the west and expanding to the coast tonight. Temperatures mainly in the 50s and 60s with warmer days Thursday and Friday, and cooler spell by Sunday. Rainfall expected Friday night into Saturday.
The Associated Press reports a general warming trend across broad areas of the country ending a brief cool spell. Temperatures rose into the 50s from Texas to Virginia with notable gains in Birmingham Alabama and Crossville Tennessee. Rain accompanied the warmer front in the Ohio Valley and Lower Mississippi region while the Northwest and Northern Plains saw warmth and dry overall conditions prevail.
Gov Hodges released Thompson memorandum alleging a liquor pool supplied drinks for Democratic events and implicated officials from the governor to state legislators. Thompson named Frank Sims and Fred Kelly, tied to the ABC Board and Raleigh sales, while denying personal knowledge of many charges. He hinted at editor Jonathan Daniels and a News and Observer connection to the scandal.
