President Eisenhower endorses Benson’s flexible supports plan amid farm price concerns and repeats no resignation discussion. Hagerty and Benson say the administration will not revert to wartime rigid price formulas and will send a January Congress proposal.
British foreign secretary Harold Macmillan formally protests a deal between Czechoslovakia and Egypt delivering MIG fighters submarines tanks and heavy arms at favorable rates partly in cash and partly in cotton and rice. The move seeks to curb Soviet bloc arms in the Middle East as Western powers discuss reaffirming a five year pledge to contain aggression and uphold regional frontiers.
U S Food and Drug Administration recruited and trained agents at Winston-Salem McLean Trucking Co to pose as truck drivers. The operation supported a probe into wide scale amphetamine sales to truckers and led to indictments of 42 truck stops drug stores and service stations.
Washington reports that atomic submarines may serve as motherships for undersea tugs towing hulls carrying troops or cargo in invasion scenarios. Rear Adm Rickover disclosed a plan for a 5000 ton vessel powered by two reactors, larger than Nautilus and Seawolf.

Explosion of two cases of dynamite damaged Miami Life, a controversial weekly in Miami Fla. Publisher Reubin Clein blamed gamblers or anti integration foes and suggested friends of Sheriff Thomas J. Kelly might be responsible. Sheriff Kelly ordered an explosives expert to investigate and vowed arrest for anyone involved. Investigators reported two full dynamite cases were set off damaging a flatbed press a typesetting machine and other equipment.

At Geneva on October 29 Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov, long seen as stern nyet man, relaxed and joked at the conference. An American delegate, noting his new ease, said Molotov now smiles and laughs, while Macmillan and Pinay comment on his mellowness at the table. The U.S. delegation says no one has pressed him on a rumored disclosure plan.
Secretary Benson presented six points to support the administration view on agriculture. He cited farm land values up 5 percent from a year ago, seven of ten farms mortgage free, debt to assets at 11 percent vs 19 percent in 1940, higher per capita farm income, near balance of production and consumption, and a 25 percent rise in farm exports with population growth.
United Nations appeals to Egypt and Israel to stop all aggressive actions near El Auja and in other frontier zones. Dag Hammarskjold and Maj. Gen. Burns urge both sides to restrict operations to defense under the armistice terms, warning of grave moral responsibility for provocative actions.
