Adlai Stevenson told a Nassau County rally that President Eisenhower requires a Democratic Congress to halt giveaways and restore U S prestige. Halloween Traditions Duet With Holiday Charity Plans

Revival Services Led by Dr W Marshall Craig in Dallas

Dr W Marshall Craig of Dallas Texas will lead a series of revival services at Green Street Baptist Church from October 31 to November 7. He and Mrs Craig arrived in High Point today. Known and beloved among Southern ministers and Baptists, Craig is a South Carolina native. Services start nightly at 7 30 with pre service group TV meetings. Methodist Youth Spaghetti Supper Supports Missions

The Wesley Memorial Methodist Youth Fellowship held a spaghetti supper to raise funds for missions. Last year they raised $400 for a Korean medical student scholarship. This year’s proceeds go to Leland Memorial Church in Havana Cuba.

Training School for Methodists Opens in High Point

The annual Training School for Methodists of High Point and vicinity begins tomorrow at First Methodist Church and runs through Nov 4. Sessions run 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. with morning nursery and kindergarten labs 9 to 11. Instructors include Drey Richey and Dr James L Price Jr. and others. Rev Robert G Tuttle will serve as dean.

Morning Gospel program on WFMY Greensboro is planned

The N C Christian Endeavor Union will run Morning Gospel on WFMY TV in Greensboro from November 1 to 5 and TV Chapel on Sunday November 7. On Sunday afternoon November 7 the Reverend Lloyd Sechriest Christian Endeavor Union counselor will deliver the message. A High Point Young Adults male quartet will perform.

Cop killer slain in Chicago ambush on North Side

Police gunned down Agostino Amedeo, a 26 year old ex convict who killed Detective Charles Amerino, as he tried to flee a trap near Berwyn and Clark Streets. A stray bullet wounded bystander Louis Molnar. Del Genio Marcus and the sister in law helped tip authorities.

Methodists Map Liquor Legislation

The North Carolina Methodist Conference reaffirmed opposition to liquor and urged the 1955 General Assembly to prohibit manufacture and sales or hold a statewide referendum. It also called for banning liquor advertising in state publications and on highways. The conference approved a voluntary benevolence funding plan, set June 30 as fiscal year end, and announced the 1955 meeting dates June 27 to July 1. Man Cleared In Death Of Mate At Santa Monica

Santa Monica police cleared Roy Arthur Ford of suspicion in the nicotine poisoning death of Mary Von Elm wife of former amateur golf champion George Von Elm. Ford faced a morals charge with $3000 bail and awaits preliminary hearing November fifth after detectives traced a pharmacist who sold a nicotine compound to Mrs Von Elm. He was found in a car with her body after an all night drinking spree and had been jailed on murder suspicions.

Girl Sentenced for Smuggling Law to Convicts

In Moultrie Georgia an 18 year old blonde was sentenced to two to four years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty to smuggling a hacksaw blade to a prison inmate in Colquitt County. She claimed boys asked for the blade to saw soup bones and denied any escape plan. Sheriff Eddie Gordon identified her as the wife of Dallas G. Lower Jr. of Akron Ohio and said she visited relatives. no inmate named.

Dock Strike Ends as London Dockers Vote to Return

British dock workers totaling about 43000 voted to end a nationwide walkout and return to work Monday. They agreed to resume duties on condition that overtime pay be negotiated and noncompliant workers face no discipline. The dispute began in London over voluntary overtime.

Bus Crash Kills Woman Near Washington North Carolina

A Seashore Transportation Co bus carrying 30 New Bern High School football players collided head on with an automobile on U.S. 17 near Washington. Kathleen Osborne 36 of Portsmouth Va died. John Patrick O Carroll Jr 22 of Washington NC was critically injured. Os bie Norwood Dixon 29 of New Bern was hospitalized. State Patrolman Burton said the bus driver swerved to avoid the car but was unable to prevent the collision.

Bodies Of Plane Crash Victims Recovered In France

In the French mountains north of Nice the bodies of all 21 victims from a U S Air Force C47 crash were recovered. An American ground rescue team led by Maj. Rufus Hessberg located the wreckage and identified the scene after it was spotted by a Navy helicopter pilot.

Democratic shift in campaign tactics targets Eisenhower

Washington reports a last minute change in campaign strategy with National Chairman Stephen A. Mitchell accusing Eisenhower of joining a red smear against Democratic congressional candidates.
