Adair to blast well fire at Elk Hills to cut oxygen supply

Red Adair arrives at Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserve to detonate plastic explosives aimed at starving the fire of oxygen and stopping the gas oil geyser after a Tuesday explosion killed three Louisiana workers. The eruption shoots flames over 100 feet high, with the oil reserve holding about one billion barrels. Navy and Kern County crews work to cool the area as Adair, with one Houston assistant, plans to access the stuck packer and possibly free it if the fire subsides.
